I had a difficult time leaving my comfy bed this morning, so I got a later start than I hoped and missed the Kaiser Chiefs breakfast show.
I decided to start the day with Neon Trees at the Pandora Discovery Den at Antone’s. I got there about an hour before they were scheduled to go on, and was surprised a) just how small it was, and b) just how empty it was. I got a good spot on the edge of the stage,
The club filled to capacity by the time the band took the stage. It was another great Neon Trees set, a bit more subdued than last night’s affair, but about 3 songs longer. Even though the lighting was absolute crap, I managed to get some good pics, so I was happy.
Afterwards, I made my way over to the Filter party to see the Kaiser Chiefs. The courtyard was full by the time I got there, but I could see just fine from the street. The Kaiser Chiefs were…the Kaiser Chiefs! They did “Ruby,” and “I Predict a Riot”, and a few other hits, as well as several new songs.
They still have a great energy. Singer Ricky Wilson even crowdsurfed near the end of their set.
Keane were playing after Kaiser Chiefs and I really wanted to see them, but needed a break. I went off to the pub next door for a pint of Guiness, and when I came back, the sidewalk was too full to get a view. I did listen to them perform “Everything Changes” and they sounded fantastic!
I planned on going to see fun. next, but Neon Trees were playing their final SXSW show across the street, and I was tired. Less walking won the night.
This was the Vevo showcase, and I am so glad I went. Fantastic professional lighting meant my photos came out much better than the ones I took at Antone’s. And their set was at least one song longer then the Antone’s set too. A really great, high energy performance that looked and sounded great!
